Are you interested in how attachment affects the developing brain? How our relationship with our children actually changes the way they experience themselves and the world? And how mindfulness practice can optimize both their brain development and their functioning in the world?

The Essential Parenting Blog is designed to answer two fundamental questions:

1) What is a human being?

2) How does one develop, grow, and mature?

The first series of articles — Attachment, Mindfulness, and the Developing Brain — will focus on Attachment Theory and how a child’s attachment relationship with her parents affects her developing mind and brain. Here are a few of the topics of up-and-coming articles in this series:

• What is attachment and why it is so important?
• A brief history of Attachment Theory
• Attachment types and their origins
• The parent’s mind with respect to attachment
• How attachment affects the developing brain
• Mindfulness and other strategies for optimizing attachment
• How attachment is not indulgence and can protect against narcissism

A new article will appear every two weeks and provide valuable information that you can apply in your daily life as a parent. The articles are intended to be easy reads, though there will be the occasional article that is more “scientific.” (I’m a pediatrician — I can’t help it!)

Sign up via the email box above and receive a new article weekly. Please pass the link along to any interested friends. And let me know what you think! Your feedback is always appreciated and will help me improve the value of this offering.

Stay tuned, the first article will be out shortly!

  1. This thing is finally up and working!

  2. This is wonderful. Sure makes me wish I could do it all over again with so much insight. Or that MY PARENTS could do it over again and WANT such insight! Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

  3. Love the blog, found it the middle, and am starting from the beginning. If possible, could you please (x3) add a navigation button to the next entry? Going back to the month page every time is frustrating!

Thanks! And I love the science.
